Let the sun shine!
One More Time - Comment and observation By: Joe Lee, III October 20, 2009

These days the sun is rising later, so if you are running or walking early in the morning, please wear a bright color.

Contrary to popular belief, red is not a bright reflective color. It reflects on stop signs because it has metal reflective chips in it, but in reality red is as dark as black.

In the old days of camera driven lithographic printing, we actually used red when we wanted a graphic to appear as black as possible. Believe it or not, certain shades of red are actually "darker" than black.

What's a good color to wear on a morning jog? Yellow is good. You can't beat white.

Most of us have an abundance of predominantly white oversized T-shirts. After you dress as coolly or as warmly as you want, why not slip a big floppy white T-shirt over your ensemble? It might prevent an injury.

An extra word of caution to drivers: drive slow and watch out for these health conscious folks!

Too much rain!

It would seem Mother Nature would run out of rain ... at least temporarily. After so much has fallen, it looks like she'd have to take a breath to let some evaporate up into the heavens before hosing us down again.

I don't know the statistics, but this has to be a record number of rain days during a given period for this time of year.

Buying votes

There seems to be no limit to the amount of money Washington politicians are willing to borrow in order to buy votes. Social Security is tied to inflation. There is currently no inflation, so there will be no increase.

Because of this, Washington wants to borrow $13 billion in order to send 57 million seniors an additional $250 to buy some extra votes. This is all well and good, but our grandchildren will be the ones who have to pay it back.

One year's interest at 5 percent will be $650 million. Ten year's interest (assuming it is ever paid back) will be $6.5 billion, about half the amount borrowed.

Our grandchildren will have to work extra hard to finance these Chicago-style political payoffs. You know they are going to love us for leaving all them this debt!
