News is still being circulated about a possible $6.5 billion automobile plant in Tunica County. The plant, if it becomes a reality, would eventually employ 4,500 people, according to promoters. It would produce 250,000 vehicles. We hope this comes to fruition, but as grandmother used to tell us; "If it sounds to good to be true . . ." We also hope the state is prudent with any economic incentives. By some accounts, Mississippi taxpayers spent $250,000 or more per job to lure Nissan to our state. Some question whether such a high cost is worth it.
