If you have any news from the communities of Strayhorn, Crockett, Truslow, or Sarah that you would like to have printed in our local paper please call me at 562-4528 or email me at cindysbrewer@bellsouth.net and I will submit it to The Democrat. The Brewer/Barmer Family Reunion was held on September 12 at Arkabutla Lake. There were approximately 85 family members present. Everyone enjoyed the chance to get together and reminisce about his or her childhood. Katie Childress Barmer of Corinth was a guest over the weekend of Dorothy Hatton. They both attended the Brewer/Barmer reunion on September 12. Just a reminder about the Annual Crockett School Reunion on October 3 at the Crockett Community Center. Betty Mabry is back at the Senatobia Convalescent Center after falling and breaking her leg. She will be undergoing physical therapy at the Center. We wish her a speedy recovery. Linnie McMaster was not feeling well last week. We hope she is feeling better by the time this news comes out. My aunt, Martha Lepard, is still visiting with my sister, Rita, and myself as she recovers from several different medical problems. Please remember her in your prayers as she continues to improve. This past week was homecoming week for the Strayhorn Mustangs. They have had days of dressing in Western outfits, Hippie clothes, Camouflage shirts and hats, 80's clothes and ended the week with Red, White and Blue day. The students and faculty participated in the fun-filled week. The elementary students were so cute in all their outfits. I know everyone had fun dressing for this week. Huddle House was the place to be this past Tuesday from 3 until 11pm to show your support for the Strayhorn Mustangs. The athletic department received a certain percentage of the profits made during these hours. There was a good crowd there to show their support for our athletes. Thanks to HUDDLE HOUSE for their support of our students. Strayhorn PTO had its first meeting on September 15 at the Strayhorn Cafeteria. New officers were elected and different ideas for future events were discussed. The PTO is a great way for the parents and teachers to stay in touch. If you have not joined now is the time to do so. Parents that stay involved with their children's activities at school play an important role in the success of our school. The District 1 Volunteer Fire Department will be in charge of the concession stand at Trade Day in Coldwater in October. Please come by and visit the firefighters as they work to raise money for our fire department. This fundraiser is the department's biggest fundraiser of the year. The department is made up of 27 volunteer firefighters that give a lot of their time to provide our community with fire protection. Please remember to show your support for this community organization. Get well wishes are sent to Les and Linda Carey who have both been sick with sinus infections this past week. The Strayhorn FFA Alumni group met on September 10 to elect new officers for the year. Darin Case is our FFA sponsor. If you would like to join the FFA Alumni, you may contact Mr. Case for more information. We were so glad to learn that Mary Jane Cluts tests results were okay last week. She is a real asset to our community. I would like to say thank you to everyone that has called to say how much he or she enjoys reading the West Side Story. I am enjoying writing this article and hope that everyone will keep calling me with his or her news. As always, please pray for our country and its leaders and for all the military personnel that are fighting for our country and remember the families of these service men and women.
