JIM AND CAROL KOZAK

Jim and Carol Kozak of Waukee were among 60-plus riders on the WHO Tractor Ride that passed through Ogden last Wednesday afternoon. Jim says he purchased this antique John Deere tractor in the fall of 1999 and it is now his new hobby. The couple, sitting side-by-side on the buddy seat, took in the colors of the fall season as they rode the circuitous route that began and ended at the Farm Progress Show Expo site just east of Boone. He calls it a buddy seat, but Jim explained that they were originally "dealer" seats used when teaching their customers how to operate the tractor. Several other couples were among the participants. Some rode side by side, others one in front of the other, and another couple had his and hers tractors. Riders met at 7 p.m. for breakfast and were on the road by 9. The route took them around the Boone area, through Ledges State Park and down Ogden's main street where they enjoyed a snack break at Water's Edge Church. WHO Radio has been organizing tractor rides throughout Iowa for the past 15 years. The Great Iowa Tractor Ride is a three day affair that takes place during the summer. In June of this year, the parade of tractors meandered the back roads around Centerville in southeast Iowa. A fall one day ride was introduced a few years back to accommodate more ride enthusiasts. |
