Melisa Hiles and daughter Kennedy are anxious to move into their new home! -Reporter photo
Melisa Hiles was beaming Sunday afternoon Oct. 9, 2005 as dedication took place inside a packed Habitat for Humanity house at 501 West Division Street here.
Melisa and her 5-year-old daughter Kennedy will make it their new home Sunday, Oct. 25.

She expressed her thanks during the ceremony and told The Reporter later, "It's going to be wonderful! We are so anxious to get moved in!"

The project, which started with a groundbreaking ceremony April 24, is the result of various generous cash donations from Thrivent Financial, the Leonard Good Trust, Wells Fargo, among others, in addition to inkind services and labor.

It's estimated each Habitat for Humanity House costs $50,000 to $60,000.

The dedication service was opened with a welcome by Cindy Martin, HFH board president, followed by scripture and opening prayer by Rev. Ray Hoke of Bethel Church.

John Grush of the Family Selection Commmittee introduced Melisa Hiles and Kennedy who later gave brief remarks. Dr. Paul Volker of the Church Relations Committee presented a Bible to the partnering family.

Keys were presented by Pete Nelson of the Building Committee and the presentation of a quilt was made by the Southside Pioneers Club. Gene Aldrich presented a musical selection.

Nancy Jacobson of Wells Fargo presented a check for $17,500, based on the number of work days and volunteers who participated in the building project.

Rev. Hoke closed the dedication with prayer.

The house features a spacious kitchen, dining area, living room, two bedrooms and a full basement (which Melisa will eventually finish).

It is Ogden's second Habitat for Humanity House. In all, the county now has 10 such facilities with more planned.

The HFH board includes Cindy Martin, president; Tom Venner, vice-president; Janet Tait, secretary; and Sandra Anderson, treasurer. Directors include John Guch, Dade Hinderks, Lowell Morgan, Deb Nugent, Maxine Redeker, Betty Stribling, Bob Weldon, Stan Friesen, Alan Johnson, Dennis Shannon and Dr. Paul Volker.

The board released this list of workers to The Reporter today, noting that the names were obtained from the sign up sheets provided on the work days. It is possible names are missing as some individuals may not have registered. If you did assist but did not register, The Reporter will publish an additional list in a future issue.
