    Josh Turner, Bulldog pitcher
After a successful season that saw the Ogden Bulldogs go all the way to the state tournament, the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association selected Ogden Bulldog Josh Turner to pitch in the annual all-star series held in Clinton Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 2-5.
Turner, recruited by Northwestern College in Orange City, will take the field representing Ogden one last time. Turner's season stats include an impressive ERA of .053 and a total of 130 strikeouts in just 68 innings of work, along with a nearly 400 batting average.
With this selection, it marks only the fourth time this honor has been bestowed upon a player from Ogden. Others Tyler Tiffany in 2009, Eric Trudo in 1993 and Bob Kieffer in 1977.

Turner, was also recently named to the Iowa Newspaper Association All-State second team in Class 2A.
The four seniors selected as team captains are 4A - Zach Coppola, Dowling Catholic; 3A - Tyler Peyton, Dallas Center-Grimes; 2A - Calvin Mathews, Davis County; and 1A - Austin Vaske, Bishop Garrigan.
Calvin Mathews, who was named captain of the 2A team, is a five-year letter winner for the Davis County Mustangs and has led the team to its third straight appearance in the Iowa State Tournament. Mathews was named the Iowa Gatorade Player of the Year in the 2011 season. In 2012, Mathews led the Mustangs to an undefeated 20-0 record in South Central Conference and a 41-1 record in the regular season. Mathews headed up the Mustang pitching staff with a 12-0 regular season record in 80-1/3 innings of work. He struck out 165 batters, walked four, and had an earned run average of 0.70. He was also an offensive threat with a batting average of .475. He had 58 hits, 11 home runs and 59 RBIs this season. Mathews will attend the University of Iowa this fall where he plans to further his baseball career with the Hawkeyes.
