Boys defeat Madrid, fall to Boone and Des Moines Christian

Ogden boys thwarted a Madrid comeback and held on to win 4-3 Thursday at Madrid. They found themselves on the losing end in their other two outings last week. Des Moines Christian scored the only run of the game on a wild pitch Monday and in Thursday's game Boone piled on 8 runs in one inning to defeat the Dogs 10-5. Ogden finished the week at 13-6 overall and 8-2 in conference play. DM Christian 1 - Ogden 0 The Bulldogs were held to three hits in a 1-0 loss to Des Moines Christian Monday, June 12 in Des Moines. Ogden wasted an excellent pitching performance by Josh Turner as 16 of the 18 outs recorded were strikeouts. Des Moines scored the only run of the game in the home half of the second inning. Turner struck out Tooldouse swinging then Frey hit a 2-2 pitch for a double. Schmitt reached base when Boggess dropped a third strike pitch allowing Frey to advance to third. Turner then struck out Glenn. With Sheely batting, a wild pitch allowed Frey to score and advanced Frey to second. Turner then struck out Sheely to end the inning. The Bulldogs were led by Turner with 6 strong innings of pitching. He struck out 16 batters and walked only two. Turner gave up only three hits on the night and collected a hit. Boone pounded out 11 hits and took advantage of Bulldog errors in the win. Ogden scored first in the home half of inning number one. Cody Good was hit by the pitch to lead the inning off. With Church batting, Good stole second base then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Church was retired on a pop up to the third baseman. Turner lined a single to center field to score Good from third. Adreon singled to left field moving Turner to second and Boggess reached base on a fielder's choice when, on a bunt, Boone's catcher Baltimore threw out Turner at third. Summerhays, courtesy running for Boggess, was at first and Adreon, second. Haglund then doubled to center field scoring Adreon and Summerhays, putting Ogden up 3-0. Westberg flied out to end the inning. Boone pulled within one run in their half of the third inning. Mcdowell led the inning off on a single to center field. He advanced to second on a wild pitch then to third when, with one out, Moran singled to left field scoring McDowell. Moran stole second and scored on a single by Slight, pulling Boone within one run. Boone took the lead for good when they sent 11 batters to the plate scoring 8 runs on 6 hits highlighted by a 2-run scoring double by Hilsabeck to take the lead at 10-3. The Bulldogs responded in the home half of the fifth when Adam Adreon's hit to center field scored Cody Good and Church to make the final score 10-5. Ogden was led by Adreon's double. The Tigers put a scare into the Bulldogs when they scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Turner slammed the door for the win. Ogden broke the scoreless third-inning tie when, with two outs Cody Good was walked and Boggess was hit by the pitch. Boggess and Good advanced a base on a wild pitch. Adreon doubled, scoring Good and Boggess for a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs added a single tally in the sixth when Church led the inning off with a walk. Church advanced to third when a ground ball by Ryan was misplayed by the Tigers's second baseman. Church scored when Westberg grounded out to shortstop. Ogden added another run in the seventh when Turner doubled and scored on two wild pitches. Madrid made it close in the home half of the seventh when Kirkpatrick and Beck led the inning off with singles, placing runners on second and third. Kendall struck out, but the ball got away and Kirkpatrick scored and Beck went to second. With two outs, Ugolini walked and Gibson was hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Turner came in to relieve Adreon and hit Novotny to score Beck to cut the lead to 4-2. Gibson singled to score Ugolini and the lead was only one at 4-3. Turner left the bases loaded when he struck out Langan to end the ball game. Boggess and Haglund had two hits apiece in the outing. Turner added a double.
