Even with season best times in several events the Bulldogs had a hard time scoring points at the WCAC Conference meet Monday, April 30, proving just how tough the conference is this year.
Earlham racked up 154 points to finish as conference champs, followed by Des Moines Christian in second. The Bulldogs tallied 17.5 points for ninth place.
"It was a perfect night to run - great competition and even better weather," commented Coach Dave Neubauer. "We were at our season best in almost every event."
Although the coach would have liked to have seen more points, he thought the girls ran well and are closing the gap between themselves and other teams athletically.
Doing her part for the night was Maddie Diggs who placed in all four of her events. Diggs got off to a good start and sprinted to a fourth place finish in the 100 meter dash. Her time of 1:02.32 in the 400 meter run (fifth place) and 2:39.84 in the 800 (sixth place) were her season best times. The 4 x 100 made up of Megan Ross, Morgan Bennett, Jenna Sheirbon and Diggs also placed.
Neubauer said the shuttle hurdle relay has been running very well, and after a season best time, placed seventh at Panora.
In field events points were produced by Liz Carter in the shot put and Olivia Johnson in the discus.

    Co-ed Relays

The wind had a real impact on all contestants at Ogden's co-ed track meet Tuesday, May 1, keeping all teams from recording any great times. Coach Neubauer said the girls still put in consistent times.
"Our girls work hard and it shows on a night like tonight when it takes some mental toughness to compete."
Diggs continues to shine in the sprinting events. Her best event was the 200 meter dash in which she was runner-up with a time of 28.88. She placed third in the 100 meter dash and fourth in the 400 meter event.
The coach says that Ross, Sheirbon and Good have all been running well on their legs of relays. The shuttle hurdle relay again lowered its time and continues to improve.
In field events, Kara Kieffer had a personal best distance in the discus.
