The fourth ranked Prairie Valley Warriors made quick work of things at Gowrie Friday by putting 21 points on the board in the first quarter and 13 points in the second, enroute to an easy 41-6 win over the Ogden Bulldogs.
Led by a senior duo in quarterback Cole Jaeschke and running back Jon Elmore, the Warriors' offense racked up 384 total yards, 264 of them via the air lanes. Not only that, the team played tough, physical football, key ingredients they'll need if they hope to advance in postseason play. In 2008, PV was eliminated in the semifinal round via a 35-14 loss to West Lyon, Inwood.
Friday, against Ogden, Elmore rushed past the 4,000-yard mark with a 20 yard jaunt in the first quarter. Jaeschke, meanwhile, put his career passing total at 4,174 yards, reaching 4,000 yards with a 33 yard toss to Michael Martin. Jaeschke and Elmore became the first two players from the same school to reach 4,000 yards in rushing and passing in the same year and the same game.
"Our kids didn't lay down," Bulldog Coach Ken Vigdal said Saturday. "We made some mistakes. Losing two fumbles didn't help us any, but generally, we were just overpowered."
The Bulldogs prevented a shutout when Thomas Vigdal fired a 9-yarder to Josh Turner with :55 left in the game. The PAT failed.
The Warriors were in TDland at 9:24 in the first act after Jaeschke teamed up with M. Martin for a 33 yard strike. Tucker Kehoe booted the extra point.
Cole Jacobson tallied at 7:56 when he hauled in an errant Vigdal aerial and scampered 31 yards to paydirt. Kehoe's kick made it 14-0.
Elmore, who finished the night with 105 yards, got the final score of the opening period on a 1 yard plunge at 5:58. Again, Kehoe's PAT kick was good.
The second quarter was less than two minutes old when Jaeschke lobbed a 16 yarder to Keaton Martin, but the try for the extra point failed at 10:57. Jaeschke's 18 yard bomb to Curtis Anderson at 7:47, followed by Kehoe's kick, was the final scoring of the first half that ended 34-0.
Jaeschke and Jacobson teamed up again for a 27 yard aerial strike with 1:59 left in the third frame. Kehoe's kick added the extra point.
Nick Katzenmeier led the Ogden offense with 69 yards on 26 carries. He had a pass reception for 6 yards. Tyler Baumhover was good for 31 yards on 10 assignments while Asher Van Sickle recorded 18 yards on 3 attempts. Jared Hefler covered 8 yards in a single carry. Adam Adreon grabbed a Vigdal toss for 30 yards. Turner tallied on a 9 yard reception.
Gabe Summerhays punted four times, averaging 32.5 yards per kick. He returned four kickoffs for 78 yards while Van Sickle returned two for 73 yards.
Defensively, Van Sickle was top man with 5 solos and 3 assists. Other key defenders were Sean Nichols, 6/1; Tanner Wilson, 3/4; Tyler Happe, 6/0; John Brown, 4/1; Turner, 3/1; Baumhover, 3/0; and Vigdal, 1/2.
Warrior Coach Mike Swieter was a happy man, commenting, "This was a special night for us, with two of our players setting state records. The overall team played well. It was our homecoming, so that made it even nicer."
The victory kept the Warriors undefeated.

NEXT: Friday, Oct. 16: Ogden travels to Guthrie Center. Prairie Valley travels to West Central Valley, Stuart. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
