Alice May Kipp, 91, of Ames, and formerly of Ogden, died Monday, Oct. 5, 2009 at Northcrest Retirement Community in Ames. Funeral services were Thursday, Oct. 8 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ogden with Rev. Gordon Lundberg officiating. Burial was at Swede Valley Cemetery south of Ogden. Alice May Swanson was born May 25, 1918 on the family farm south of Ogden. She graduated with the Ogden High School class of 1935. Following her education, Alice worked for the Ogden Telephone Company as an operator. She married Louis Kipp. To this union three children were born: Marvin, Melvin, and Michael. The couple lived and farmed south of Beaver for 30 years. In 1975, Alice and Louis divorced. Alice then worked as a ward attendant at the Woodward State Hospital for 12 years until retiring. She later lived in Iowa City for several years before moving to Northcrest Retirement Community. Alice was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ogden. Her hobbies included paper cutting, collecting brooches, crocheting, quilting, cross-stitching, bead work, and reading. Survivors include three sons, Marvin L. Kipp of San Antonio, Texas, Melvin R. Kipp, and Michael G. Kipp both of Ames; two nieces; and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Katie Campbell and Marie Siglin; and one brother Robert Swanson.
