Tuesday, June 16 7:05 a.m.: Sgt. Hurley responded to Pilot Mound on a complaint of dogs barking all night long. Humane Society has been to the same location on earlier complaints. Investigation will continue. 7:55 p.m.: Deputy Pontius took a report from a rural Perry resident who had obtained rental information from a Craig's List advertisement. Individual thought she had rented a home in Des Moines and sent over $1,000. Turns out to be a scam. 10:10 p.m.: Deputy Pontius investigated a car-deer accident four miles norhtwest of Boone on E26. Sarah M. Fiebiger, 19, of Dayton, was eastbound on E26 when she struck a deer on the roadway, causing $2,000 in damages to a 1996 Chevy. No injuries were reported. Wednesday, June 17 2:58 a.m.: Deputy Zeutenhorst responded to the 2200 block of Rose Road. 911 operator had received a call from a male claiming he was lost and thought he was somewhere between Marshalltown and Des Moines. Cell phone indicated that he was in the area of the 2200 block of Rose Rd. Another 911 call came in a few minutes later and a woman saw a man talking on a cell phone roaming around her yard and fields near Zook Spur Road, Madrid, who appeared to be intoxicated. Driver from Clarksville, TN was arrested for OWI, by Dallas County Deputies. His vehicle had over $3,000 in damages. 6:13 p.m.: Deputy Hoffman arrested Tristan Novak, 23, of Story City, on a Story County warrant. Bond was set at $1,000. Original charge was OWI, first offense. Arrest was made at 123 X Ave., Ames. Novak was taken to the Story County Line. Thursday, June 18 10:53 a.m.: Sgt. Hurley investigated a single-vehicle accident 1.5 miles northwest of Woodward on L Ave. Keith Westberg, 56, of Ogden, was operating a County vehicle pulling a loaded trailer south bound on L Avenue. Westberg reported that he swerved to avoid hitting an animal, lost control, and rolled his vehicle and trailer into the ditch. No injuries were reported. Damages were estimated at $8,000 to a Chevy K2500 truck, $1,000 to a trailer, and another $3,000 to a piece of Ditch Witch equipment that was loaded on the trailer. Westberg was cited for failure to maintain control. All property owned by Boone County. Friday, June 19 6:46 a.m.: Deputy Ruter responded to a complaint of power lines down in the area of the 1300 block of Highway 30. Boone Fire and Alliant Energy responded. Lines down do to high winds. 2:46 p.m.: Deputy Hoffman responded to a complaint of vehicles parked along the roadway on the shoulders and in the roadway north of the Humpback bridge on J Avenue, Ogden. Individuals were located. They were camping in the area and said they would move the vehicles. 8:13 p.m.: Deputy Hoffman added more charges to an inmate, Jimmie Bennett, 39, of Ames, who is a prisoner in the Boone County Jail for violation of a no contact order. Bennett has made and attempted phone calls and letters to a protected party. He was charged with violation of a no contact order. Saturday, June 20 2:59 a.m.: Deputy Wingate noticed that lights were out at the Casey's General Store in Madrid. Building was checked and all doors were found secure. 4:08 a.m.: Deputy Wingate responded to the Casey's General Store in Madrid, as employee was concerned about power out at the store and wanted building checked. Everything was okay. Security company was informed as alarm should have gone off when power went out. Deputy responded as there was no Madrid officer on duty at the times mentioned. 5:28 p.m.: Deputy Hoffman responded to a complaint by a woman from Grimes that she had heard someone yelling for help and a dog yelping in the lower Ledges area. Search and Rescue and Park Officer searched the area. Deputy assisted. In conclusion it was decided that there was a dog barking in the distance and the call for help was probably from guinea fowl that could be heard from the Moingona area. Nothing else was found. 9:22 p.m.: Deputy Zeutenhorst reported that he was in pursuit of a black sports car that he had clocked at 110 mph, westbound on 190th. Deputy Hoffman responded as well as Boone Officers, but vehicle was able to elude officers. 10:37 p.m.: Deputy Wingate reported that he was in pursuit of a motorcycle that he clocked at 135 mph eastbound Highway 30. Ames P.D. was called and vehicle was lost between the two areas. 11:49 p.m.: Deputy Zeutenhorst responded to a complaint of black cattle on the roadway in the 2100 block of Rose Road. Cattle were located and rounded up. Sunday, June 21 1:58 a.m.: Deputy Zeutenhorst responded to a domestic situation to assist an Ogden Officer in Ogden. Intoxicated female party was taken to a friend's house, also in Ogden. No arrests made. 7:47 a.m.: Sgt. Hurley responded to a complaint of cattle loose on the roadway in the 700 block of Kale Road. Cattle were located and rounded up. 8:11 a.m.: Sgt. Hurley responded toward Clover Road north of Perry as there were reports of an intoxicated individual on the roadway, causing problems. State radio and Perry P.D. also responded. Turned out to have been a passenger in a vehicle when the driver was arrested for OWI by Perry P.D. at 144 and Clover earlier. Passenger was told to stay put with the vehicle until someone could pick him up. Obviously he did not stay put and was arrested by Perry for public intoxication. 11:15 a.m.: Sgt. Hurley responded to the Story County line. There was reported a hit and run accident at the County line. Witnesses were able to get license plate of the vehicle that left the scene. Investigation is continuing. Frank Shabel, 66, of Boone, did receive minor injuries when he was struck from behind. $1,200 in damages were reported to his 1996 Nissan. |
