The task force comprises federal state and local law-enforcement agents and conducts undercover online investigations in response to complaints regarding children being sexually exploited via the Internet. The task force also monitors the Internet for the bartering of child pornography.
Deery entered a Yahoo chat room called "Fetishes" Sept. 19, posing as the mother of two daughters, ages 8 and 10. She was contacted by someone using the Yahoo screen name of "parafling," the affidavit states. Parafling allegedly began asking the undercover agent questions.
"May I ask what your into or looking for. nothing is taboo to me ... im into bondage s/m breeding incest young rape spanking you name it," Parafling allegedly wrote. When the detective asked parafling if he'd ever been with a child, he responded, "I did with a 9-year-old once," according to the affidavit. "Been 10 years or more but I will get back into the groove lol."
In graphic detail, parafling told the detective that he wanted to be with her first, then her two children, the affidavit states.
"Love the idea of breeding a mom, and in time doing my own daughter," parafling wrote, according to the affidavit.
A day later, Deery signed online and was allegedly contacted by parafling, who immediately went into a discussion about meeting her and her two preteen girls.
"I am very nice you would never know I was into this ... I know some guys into this look creepy. I look like the guy next door and I am very nice sweet and I will be sweet to them darling," he wrote, the affidavit states. His alleged online conversation continued with graphic details of his proposed sexual encounter with the children.
The detective allegedly was again contacted by parafling Sept. 21. The online conversation "quickly turned to that of a sexual nature," the affidavit states. Parafling and the undercover detective allegedly discussed a meeting.
During an online conversation Sept. 22, parafling allegedly asked the detective, "what did you say and what did they say," referring to whether the undercover detective told her two daughters about the proposed meeting. He also told the detective that if he babysat for her, that her daughters must "without question" know they would have to have to "please me at my will," the affidavit states. The online conversations continued on numerous occasions, and included talk of a meeting, the affidavit states.
A court order was issued Oct. 21 requesting subscriber information for parafling@yahoo.com. The detective received information that the subscriber of the account was Jeffrey Smith of Exton. Chester County detectives verified the information.
The detective was contacted Oct. 27 by parafling via instant messenger. He allegedly suggested meeting Oct. 28 between 2 and 3 p.m. at the Wendy's on MacDade Boulevard in Ridley. He told the detective he'd try to get out of work early to make the meeting, the affidavit states.
Friday, the detective received a phone call from "Jeff" who told her he was on MacDade Boulevard, the affidavit states. They allegedly agreed to meet in the rear parking lot of Wendy's in a silver Ford Escape. At 2:10 p.m., that car entered the parking lot and Smith was taken into custody. On the front seat of the car was a small black bag containing a small digital camera, two sex toys, rope and handcuffs, the affidavit states.
Hours before he was arrested Friday, Smith allegedly contacted the detective online and told her he had had a dream the night before.
He dreamt that the woman he had been corresponding with "set me up like you were the cops, I walked in and you arrested me for this and I needed to kill myself because I will never go to jail," the affidavit states.
Smith is behind bars in Delaware County prison after failing to post 10 percent of $500,000 bail.
