"I've always been interested in drama," said Victoria Meskill, who indicated that she has "been on stage since I was 3."
The drama club meets weekly on Wednesday after school. It will invite residents of nursing homes to attend some small productions during the upcoming holidays.
Tryouts will begin next month for "Music Man Jr.," which will be presented April 17 and 18.
Mrs. Cappiello, a longtime New Milford resident who plays the piano and other instruments, said she participated in productions as an undergraduate at Muskingum College in Ohio.
She started the club about two years ago and named it Purple Productions, because she had decorated her room, where reading classes are held, in purple. The first major production was "Aladdin Jr."
Mrs. Cappiello said the club already has become a feeder system for the New Milford High School program, which did "Beauty And The Beast" during the last academic year.
"We've seen a big difference in their ability to stand up in the classroom and give a speech," she said regarding the positive residual effects of students being in the club.
Mrs. Cappiello said that her father, Earl Norem, a retired illustrator, her son, Michael Andre Cappiello, who is about to turn 17, and staff members at SMS have helped build the sets.
She noted that music teacher Diane Lewis has assisted with the song presentations.
'I've made friends, and I've found that I like to act," student Nick Ferlow said regarding how Purple Productions has become a source of enjoyment for him.
