    Wave Boys Beat Nighthawks

The New Milford boys soccer team is scheduled to start the South-West Conference championship tournament on Friday, and the Green Wave's 14-2 record is more than good enough to give it a home game.

The Wave got its 13th win of the season, and seventh-consecutive victory, Monday night, traveling to Newtown and leaving on the fat end of a 3-0 score.
It was another nice win in the final league game of the season. The Nighthawks have had a good year, but have been on a downward slide lately. While a team would like to enter the postseason on a high, things haven't turned out that way for Newtown, which lost for the third time in its last four games. While they beat Bunnell last Friday, in their two previous matches, the Nighthawks dropped back-to-back, 1-0, decisions to New Fairfield and Joel Barlow.
New Milford scored the only goal of the first half, which came with less than a minute left. When a Newtown player with possession slipped on the slick grass, Nick Murad stepped in and corralled the ball and laid down a cross to Fabricio Viana, who shot past Nighthawks keeper Zack Dlouhy.
The Wave added on two more in the second. Miguel Carniero connected off a pass from Sean Pearson for the second tally, and Russell Parker scored down the stretch, for the three-goal win.
Jack Holub served in net for the Wave, making seven saves on 10 shots, with Dlouhy making fives saves on nine shots.
The Wave made it 14 wins, and eight straight, with a 4-0 victory against Bunnell on Wednesday. No further details were available at press time.
The Wave will begin SWC Tournament play today, with a home game against either Bunnell or Weston at 3:45 p.m.
New Milford is hoping its quest for an SWC title will take it all the way to Redding. The SWC tourney championship game will be played this Thursday at Joel Barlow High School at 7 p.m.
