Stephanie Norling, 28, of Stratford, was charged with failure to appear in the second degree. A warrant had been issued for Norling's arrest because she had not appeared in court on the original charges of operating a motor vehicle while her license was suspended and using a handheld cell phone while driving. Norling turned herself in to police on Friday and released on $1,000 bond. She has a court date of Sept. 22.

Tracey Andronaco, 26, of Westport, was charged with breach of the peace: fight/capable of causing minor injury. On Friday, around 2 p.m., police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence on Oak Street. A verbal argument with family members over Andronaco' personal items escalated to yelling and screaming, and Andronaco allegedly damaged a door by punching it. She was issued a misdemeanor summons for breach of peace and released on a promise to appear in court last Monday.

Scott Porter, 49, of Westport was charged with threatening and with disorderly conduct. On Friday, around 4:30 p.m., Porter turned himself in at police headquarters because there was an active warrant for his arrest, stemming from an Aug. 23 incident. After an investigation, police had found that at that time, Porter and his victim had had an argument and he allegedly threw the victim overboard and threatened her. She later got back in the boat, was driven home and then the suspect left. Porter denied that he threw her overboard and said that nothing happened. Porter was released on an undisclosed amount of bond and was to appear in court last Monday.

Michael Smith, 48, of Westport, was charged with criminal trespass in the third degree. On Friday, police responded to a report of an unwanted person yelling and screaming. The victim said that Smith is an ex-boyfriend and that he arrived unannounced and began yelling at her. Police recognized Smith from prior dealings with the victim and knew that he had been warned previously not to return to her residence or he would face charges of criminal trespass. Smith said that he went to the victim's residence to confront the victim on fraudulent charges made on a company credit card. He was released on a misdemeanor summons and a promise to appear in court on Monday morning.

Charles Blue, 47, of Stamford, was charged with criminal impersonation. On Saturday, around 3:45 p.m., police stopped a blue Mercedes with no front license plate and a cracked windshield. A registration check showed that the plate was for another vehicle, which had been cancelled. The operator repeatedly told police that his name was Keith Blue, the name of his brother, and said he had no identification on him. After repeated questioning, Blue confessed that he was Charles Blue and had a suspended license. Blue said he lied about his identity because he did not want to be arrested for driving on his suspended license. Blue was arrested and released on $500 bond and has a court date of Sept. 23. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

At 8:06 p.m. Monday, Westport Police transferred to Westport Fire dispatch, a 911 call for smoke in the building, possible fire on the second floor of a residence located at 37 Maple Lane.The occupants reported the incident and advised the dispatcher that they were waiting outside. Arriving Westport Fire units went to the second floor and found a light smoke and heavy burning odor condition. Firefighters found that a high intensity halogen lamp had exploded, emitting the smoke and odor. They unplugged the lamp and brought it outside. Ventilation fans were used to air out the building. The occupants were allowed to go back inside the home within 20 minutes. Residents are reminded to evacuate your occupancy immediately when you have a smoke condition, burning odor or you see signs of fire. Call 911 with a portable phone after you are outside the home. Remember to wait outside for the Fire Department and do not go back in until fire officials deem it safe to do so. Inspect halogen lights for dust, insects or any substance on the bulbs. This will keep them operating efficiently and safely.

On Sunday evening at 6:58 p.m., the Westport Fire Department responded to a reported box truck on fire, southbound on I-95 between exits 18-17 near the Hales Road overpass. This was the second truck fire on I-95 the Fire Department responded to this week. While enroute additional information received from the driver that the vehicle contained three 20 lb. propane tanks in the cargo area. The first arriving unit found heavy smoke coming from the box truck which had stopped on the side of the highway. The two firefighters first on scene opened the cargo box door and used a hose line to cool the propane tanks and other contents. An additional engine and the shift commander's vehicle positioned to protect the firefighters fighting the fire and the occupants who had ran away from the burning vehicle.
The fire appears to have been electrical in nature with the ignition point under the cargo box in the rear. The vehicle was shut down and all batteries disconnected.
