Loyd Star 75, Bogue Chitto 42
Undefeated Loyd Star (2-0) jumped out to a 16-5 first-quarter lead on Bogue Chitto. At the half, the Hornets commanded a 20-point, 37-17 lead.
"We didn't play as well as I would have liked us to," said Loyd Star boys coach Gene (Moochie) Britt after the win. "We have to work a little bit more together. We missed too many easy shots. We're going to get better."
Contributing to the Hornet win with 15 points was Julious Whittaker. McKinley Hamilton netted 11 points, followed by DeAndre Butler with 10 points.
"We came out with a good game plan," said first-year Bogue Chitto boys coach Jeremy Harrell. "We got in foul trouble. But we didn't give up."
Justin London's 17 points powered the Bobcats (2-2). Colby Johnson followed with 8 points.
Bogue Chitto 55, Loyd Star 50
In the girls contest, the 'Cats (4-0) pounced on the winless Lady Hornets (0-2) 16-10 for the lead in the first quarter. Loyd Star followed with a 17-9 run to carry a 27-25 advantage at the half.
In the third quarter, Bogue Chitto retook the lead with an 18-13 run to carry a 43-40 lead into the final frame.
"We played well," said Loyd Star girls coach Billy Vaughn. "We made some mental mistakes and we missed too many free throws."
Leading the Lady Hornets with a game-high 21 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocked shots was Tyrisha Patterson. Erica Smith scored 14 points and made 3 steals. Anna Brooks led off the backboards with 12 rebounds and had 4 assists. Leah Britt collected 8 assists and made 3 steals. Sarah Falvey had 6 assists. Hannah Brooks followed with 3 steals and 4 assists.
Aneshia Dillon netted 10 points for the Christi Terrell's 'Cats.
Junior High Action
The Bogue Chitto boys dumped Loyd Star 36-14. Powering the Bobcats with 17 points was Eli Holmes.
Loyd Star was led by Dorian Beard with 6 points. Heath Hass finished with 3 points.
The 'Cats thumped the Lady Hornets 21-6 as Mattie Avants paced Bogue Chitto with 7 points, followed by Earlneshia Dillon with 6 points.
Loyd Star got 2 points each from Haley Smith, Victoria Cupit and Kiara Humphrey.
