West Lincoln sweeps Weir

WEIR - The West Lincoln Lady Bears won 2 straight from the Weir Lady Lions Thursday afternoon in the first round of a best-of-three series in the opening round of the Class 1A State slowpitch softball playoffs.

West Lincoln (15-9) crushed Weir 19-8 in the first game and 5-0 in the second contest.

The Bears, coached by Andrew Redd, host Noxapater Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m. depending on the weather.

"I was glad to see us hit the ball and play that well," said Redd. "The girls did a good job."

Jessica Franklin (15-9) posted the wins, with 1 strikeouts and 5 walks in the first game and 1 strikeout and no walks in the second game.

West Lincoln 19, Weir 8
Powering the Bears at the plate with 3 singles each were Kerri Easley and Ashley McCaffery. Hannah Knouse and Alexis Cook ripped 2 singles apiece. Hitting safely was Stephanie Smith.

West Lincoln out hit Weir 11-6 at the plate. The Lions committed 9 errors to the Bears 4.

West Lincoln 5, Weir 5
Karli Herrington smashed a double and a single for the Bears. Katie Mullins, Kayla Beth Rushing, Franklin and Smith collected 2 singles apiece. Easley hit safely.

The Bears finished with 11 hits while the Lions had 6.

Weir committed 4 errors to West Lincoln's 1.
