The Panthers (8-15, 2-0) defeated McComb 5-4 last Thursday at McComb. They are the only teams competing in slowpitch softball in Region 6-5A
"I was really proud of the effort we put forward tonight," said Lady Panther head coach Lisa Covington. "It's good to be at home to the open the playoffs."
Brookhaven took care of business in the first 3 innings, scoring a pair of runs in each frame.
In the first, Brooke Hosick and Stevie Wright would cross home play. Hosick scored on a McComb fielding error and Wright scored on a Christen Benson double.
The Lady Panthers got a single from Shareeka Hill in the second. With 1 out, Dana Herring reached on a fielder's choice. Hill scored on an error, with Herring scoring on a Desiree Benson base hit.
The third frame, saw Madeline DeLaughter reach on a single. Benson reached on an error. Erica Bridwell reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Hill's base hit played DeLaughter and Benson.
Hosick (3 K, 0 BB) got the win, while Casey Brumfield suffered the loss. She lost her no-hit bid in the seventh on singles by Danielle Farnum and Lauren Mabile.
Hill singled twice for Ole Brook.
North Pike 11, Brookhaven 1
The Lady Jaguars (20-3) pounded out 12 hits in the game. North Pike, coached by Sonya Wallace got 2 singles and a double from Breanna McKenzie. Lauren Wells had 2 singles and a triple. Alana Hopkins singled twice. Charnessia Gordon, Kelsey Lord, Brianna Brister and Savannah Johnston also collected base hits.
"We really hit the ball tonight," said Wallace.
Wallace's ballclub used a 6-run third and a 5-run sixth to evoke the 10-run rule.
The Lady Panthers (8-16) got singles from Christen Benson, Rashana Stewart and Herring. Herring scored Ole Brook's lone run in the third off a sacrifice fly by Wright.
"North Pike hit the ball hard," said Coach Covington.
