"So I picked it up and scored," said Magee, a sophomore from Mendenhall. "I felt like nobody would stop me. I had to help the team win."
Magee and his teammates on defense limited Southwest to just 152 yards total offense. Jennings was tackled 9 times behind the line of scrimmage for losses totaling a minus 55 yards.
"We've got the No. 1 defense in the conference," Magee pointed out. "We want to hold on to that title."
Jennings (6-3, 225), a sophomore from Marietta, Ga. completed 9 of 21 passes for 21 yards. He was intercepted by Delmon Robinson in the first quarter.
Robinson also had 6 receptions for 74 yards as Co-Lin freshman quarterback Percy Turner completed 14 of 20 passes for 146 yards, tossing 2 interceptions.
A turnover led to Co-Lin's first touchdown. Freshman defensive end Terrance Coleman picked up a fumble by Southwest running back Martee Tenner and returned it 29 yards to the Bears' 28.
Co-Lin running back Tywon Lee carried the ball 4 straight plays and scored over his left side from 2 yards out. The extra point kick by Tyler Fitzgerald gave the hosts a 7-0 lead with 4:09 left in the first half.
Southwest got a 26-yard field goal from Brandon Thomas with 8:17 left in the third quarter. Co-Lin's hard-hitting defense kept the Bears out of the end zone.
"It was one of those nights when we played real well defensively," said Co-Lin had coach Glenn Davis. "We are young at the skill positions and it showed tonight. Southwest caused us problems with their pass rush."
Davis said Magee's fumble recovery returned for a touchdown was decisive. "That was a big play Ronny made. We were due to have some good things happen."
Lee led Co-Lin's rush with 16 carries for 44 yards. He only carried twice in the second half as Titus Mobley picked up the slack with 7 rushes for 34 yards.
The Pack got a safety with 2:40 left in the game when Jennings was sacked in the end zone. Terrance Coleman made the tackle for Co-Lin.
Southwest coach Charles Anthony said he was disappointed by the setback. "We kept scrapping and fighting but those turnovers were the difference in the game.
"Co-Lin played well on defense and they did enough on offense to win. Our defense played a great game, too."
LeDarrius Matthews, a freshman defensive back from Gautier, intercepted 2 passes for Southwest.
Co-Lin travels to Coahoma next Saturday for a 2 p.m. kickoff in Clarksdale. Southwest hosts East Central next Thursday night in Summit.
