Bogue Chitto coaches are pulling together for Felder Sartin, the 4-year-old son of BC football coach Gareth Sartin and his wife, Jessica. The youngster is battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). It was diagnosed in late August of last year.
Currently under going treatment for the disease at Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children in Jackson, Felder is a determined youngster with a great spirit. He wants to defeat the enemy, just like his two heroes, Superman and Batman, battle the evil that besets their galactic worlds.

For sure it has been a battle. Life has been turned upside down for the Sartin family although they are doing their best to keep things as close to normal as possible. The BC coaches are sponsoring a sports auction at the Brookhaven Recreation Department's Roland Wall Facility located on Highway 51 North.

Funds raised will be used to help defray mounting medical expenses that the Sartins are dealing with. The silent auction will be held Friday, April 3, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Auction tickets are $25 per adult and $10 per child. Patrons will be treated to a steak dinner for adults and a chicken dinner for children.

Businesses may purchase a whole table if they are interested. A sign promoting their business will be located on the table.

Only 300 tickets are available. They should be purchased as soon as possible. For ticket information, contact softball coach Denise Leggett and other members of the coaching staff. Her number at school is 601-734-2723 and her cell phone is 601-757-6769.

Leggett said the auction would include autographed sports memorabilia. Among the merchandise are autographed items by Eli Manning, Drew Brees, Nolan Ryan, Matt Forte, Patrick Willis, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Greg Biffle, Vince Spadea and many more. There also will be a 3-day bow hunt at Giles Island up for bids.

Leggett said some professional sports personalities are expected to be present, too.

Due to his fragile condition, Felder is confined to his house when he isn't in Jackson for medical treatment. He loves outdoor sports and misses being able to play with his friends from school.

Felder's parents have isolated themselves to a certain extent, trying to avoid the many cold germs that fill the air. It was a difficult football season for Coach Sartin but his Bobcats still managed to make the state playoffs.

Sartin said he deeply appreciates all the prayers and support the school, teachers, students and community have provided for him and his family.

Powerlifting update. Josh Wallace of Bogue Chitto won the 242-pound division with a 3-lift total of 1,175 pounds in the Class 1A South State gathering at Pisgah.

At Quitman, site of the Class 4A South State competition, Brookhaven's Patrick Hardy captured the 123-pound division with a lift total of 825 pounds. Lawrence County standout Pat Sutton blew everyone away in the 198 division with a total of 1,500 pounds.
