Historical Society annual meeting is Sunday
By Staff 10/23/2009
The Lake County Historical Society will hold its annual meeting, open to all members and guests, on Sunday at 2 p.m in the Smith-Zimmermann Heritage Museum. A light lunch, a business meeting and a guest speaker will be part of the afternoon.

As with each annual meeting, the event will include featured speaker Ed Muson of Sioux Falls, who will address the group on "Railroad Wars." His presentation will discuss how, during the early 1900s, the South Dakota Central Railroad and the Milwaukee Railroad battled to get Madison from Sioux Falls.

The presentation will be followed by an opportunity for discussion and questions.

Awards will also be given to local residents for their contributions to preserving local history. Shyrlee Roling, Ada Lofswold and Lloyd Shultz will be honored for their work with the school and bringing history to grade school children in cooperation with the Lake County Historical Society. Galen Crosby, who has long served as a key resource for information about Lake County history, will also be honored.

There will be a short business meeting including the election of board members and approval of a minor bylaws revision.

Membership in the LCHS is open to anyone interested. Membership costs $15 and includes a subscription to a quarterly newsletter that concentrates on local history.

Contact Torrie Ewoldt at the Smith-Zimmermann Heritage museum with any questions.
