Chester's Festival of Bands scheduled for Oct. 2

The sixth annual Lake Area Festival of Bands will be held Oct. 2 in Chester and will feature 28 area marching bands.

The event begins at 10 a.m. on Main Street and will head west, then turn north to the school.

Participants in this year's event are Arlington, Baltic, Brookings, Castlewood, Centerville, Chester Area, Colman-Egan, Dakota Valley, Dell Rapids Middle School, Dell Rapids St. Mary, Flandreau Middle School, Howard, Lake Preston, Madison, Marion, McCook Central, Montrose, Oldham-Ramona-Rutland, Parker, Sioux Falls Christian Middle School and High School, Sioux Valley, Sisseton, Tea Area Middle School and High School, Tri-Valley and White Lake.

Leading the parade will be the Chester Flyer Marching band along with the Drum Line and Brass Line from South Dakota State University's Pride of the Dakotas marching band and the American Legion Color Guard.

Following the parade the SDSU Drum Line and Brass Line will both perform on the Chester football field.

Awards will be given to each band with two bands from each of the three classes receiving special trophies for outstanding performances. A people's choice trophy will also be awarded.

Lunch that include grilled hamburgers, chips, ice cream bars and a drink, will be served by the Chester Area Band Parents at a cost of $5 per plate.

All vehicles are asked to be off the street by 9 a.m. including vehicles on 2nd Avenue and 4th Street.
