The Madison School Board will consider revising the district's policy so that the compulsory age for attending school will extend to 18 years old during its meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Room 117 at Madison Middle School.
The state has eliminated the 16-year-old age limit for high school dropouts and South Dakota teenagers must currently stay in school until their 18th birthdays.
In other business, the school board members will consider:
-- Acknowledging the resignation of Rob Honomichl as director of technology as of Aug. 31 and Todd Beutler as computer support specialist as of Sept. 25. The board members will also consider approval of a contract offered to Honomichl so he can provide technology director services to the school district. Honomichl was hired by Dakota State University this summer.
-- Approval of five home-school applications and two open-enrollment applications.
-- Reports from administrators, including the plans for a school board retreat on Sept. 17.
-- Approving the purchase of a 2010 International bus from Harlow's Bus Sales for $74,100. The purchase is funded through a clean diesel grant program and the board members will also review a supplemental budget request dealing with the bus purchase.
-- Approving surplus property items, including 28 student desks (some needing repair), computer tables, overhead projectors, TVs, a gymnastics vault and a 1998 school bus (for disposal).
-- Approving a contract with Madison Community Hospital to provide nursing services.
-- Approving a contract with the state Department of Social Services for providing Medicaid administrative outreach and case management.
-- Approving the second reading of policy outlining the district's policy for handling complaints related to federal programs.
