New DSU faculty hired

Dakota State University welcomed new faculty to campus for the 2009 fall semester. Classes began last week. New to the campus are seven faculty members, two research professors and three coaches who also take on teaching duties. Patti Brooks is an assistant professor of health information management in the College of Business and Information Systems. She had been the regional information officer at Avera Queen of Peace Health Service in Mitchell since 1991. Brooks taught at DSU from 1986-87 and served as an adjunct professor in 2008-09. She completed her master's, bachelor's and associate's degrees at DSU and is currently enrolled in the doctorate program. She also completed an MBA at the University of South Dakota. Rob Honomichl is an instructor of computer science and information systems in the College of Business and Information Systems. Honomichl had been with Madison High School since 2001 as the technology and computer studies instructor and last year as the director of technology. He received his master's and bachelor's degrees from DSU. Jeff Howard is an assistant professor of game development and design in the College of Arts and Sciences. He received his master's degree and Ph.D from the University of Texas in Austin and his bachelor's from the University of Tulsa. He has several years of teaching experience, most recently at the University of Texas in Austin. Cherie Noteboom is an instructor of computer science and information systems in the College of Business and Information Systems. She has nearly completed her Ph.D from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Noteboom received her education doctorate and master's degree from the University of South Dakota. She earned her bachelor's degree from South Dakota State University. Prior to coming to DSU, Noteboom was an instructor of business at USD. Ashley Podhradsky has been a graduate assistant at DSU for the past two years and will now be an instructor of computer science and information systems in the College of Business and Information Systems. She received her master's and bachelor's degrees from DSU and is currently enrolled in DSU's doctorate program. Zixing Shen is an assistant professor of management in the College of Business and Information Systems. Shen comes to DSU from Case Western Reserve University, where she has been a research assistant and instructor. She received her Ph.D from Case Western Reserve University, her master's degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and her bachelor's from Sichuan University, China. Michael Tu is an assistant professor of information assurance in the College of Business and Information Systems. Tu received his Ph.D. and master's degree from the University of Texas at Dallas and his bachelor's degree from Wuhan University, China. He was most recently at Southern Utah University, where he was an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Science. Dianxiang Xu is an associate research professor in the College of Business and Information Systems and the National Center for the Protection of the Financial Infrastructure. Xu comes to DSU from North Dakota State University, where he was an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science. He received his Ph.D, master's and bachelor's degrees from Nanjing University, China. Justin Zhan is an associate research professor in the College of Business and Information Systems and the National Center for the Protection of the Financial Infrastructure. Zhan received his Ph.D from the University of Ottawa, Canada, his master's from Syracuse University, and his bachelor's from Liaoning University of Engineering and Technology in China. He was most recently serving as an information systems faculty member in Cylab, Japan, for Carnegie Mellon University. Football Coach Josh Anderson will be an instructor of physical education. He received his master's and bachelor's degrees from North Dakota State University. Men's Basketball Coach Gary Garner will be an instructor of physical education. He received his master's from Truman University and two bachelor's degrees from the University of Missouri. Assistant football coach Tom Nielsen will be an instructor of physical education. Hee received his master's degree from Northern Arizona University and his bachelor's degree from DSU.
