County to discuss highway projects
By ELISA SAND, Staff Reporter 03/13/2009
Lake County Commissioners will discuss what project will be best suited to take advantage of stimulus funding Tuesday.

County Highway Superintendent Scott Mathison will discuss potential projects at 9:15 a.m. Lake County will get $94,289 in additional Surface Transportation Program (STP) funds as a result of the federal stimulus plan. Each year, counties gets a set allocation of STP funds that can be used for highway projects, but those projects must first undergo a two-year environmental study.

Mathison told commissioners March 3 that a highway project would have to be approved by resolution by April 3 if the county wanted the project to take place in 2011. Resolutions after April 3, he said, would be slated for 2012.

Additionally, commissioners will discuss and award bids for highway materials as it relates to 2009 highway projects.

Other appointments for commissioners include:

-- 9:30 a.m., Welfare Manager Peggy Young, indigent application.

-- 9:45 a.m., Director of Equalization Shirley Ebsen, 2009 County Board of Equalization schedule.

-- 10 a.m., farm land lease auction on the County Poor Farm property.

Other items of business include approval of a one-day malt beverage license for a wedding dance at Camp Lakodia; discussion of Vital Link/58th National Day of Prayer; hear a pictometry proposal; plan the next joint city-county meeting; and approve Search and Rescue members as volunteers for liability insurance coverage.
