SIOUX FALLS (AP) -- The weekly crop report for South Dakota says last week's cooler weather and limited rainfall helped farmers make planting progress.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture report, 63 percent of South Dakota's corn crop was planted as of Sunday. That's a jump of 34 percentage points from the previous week but still 8 percentage points behind the five-year average.
Nineteen percent of soybeans are planted, just slightly behind the average.
The report says 94 percent of the spring wheat has been seeded. That's just a shade less than the five-year average.
As for moisture, 85 percent of the topsoil is listed as adequate or surplus. Ninety percent of the subsoil falls into those categories.
