LEAD - Effective Friday, Nov. 9 Black Watch Security, Inc. is providing around the clock security at the Sanford Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory facilities at Homestake, according to Dave Snyder, Executive Director of the South Dakota Science and Technology Authority.
"We already have a photo identification badge system in place, and the Black Watch security officers will be closely monitoring all activity on the entire 186 acres of the property to ensure the safety of visitors, vendors, contractors, scientists and staff. In addition, they will be keeping an eye on the above-ground physical facilities," said Snyder.
Black Watch Security, Inc. was awarded the contract to provide security through a bidding and interview process.
The laboratory will host multidisciplinary science research experiments at the former Homestake gold mine.
