Lakeview Medical Center will officially break ground on its new 130,000 square-foot hospital.
Following the groundbreaking ceremony, led by LMC President Ned Wolf, will be remarks by the Rev. Jerry Bernecker and presentations by guest speakers Dr. Karl Ulrich, president Marshfield Clinic, Dr. Bradley Bekkum, Marshfield Clinic Northwest Division medical director and Rice Lake Mayor Daniel Fitzgerald. A light lunch will be served.

Building progress can be viewed by clicking on the "building a healthier community" live webcam at www.lakeviewmedical.com. A viewing platform will be built near the site, allowing for public viewing.

A goal of the project is to utilize local contractors and tradesmen when possible. To kick-off the project, Kringle Tree Service of Barron cleared the site and Rice Lake's Cooper Engineering is creating the site plan.

The tentative 16-month construction schedule includes the concrete and foundation work beginning soon, followed by steelwork and a topping-off ceremony set for October. The topping-off ceremony will allow the community to participate in the building project by writing messages on one of the last steel beams to be placed on the new building.

Some of the $43 million project's highlights include 40 larger private rooms with accommodations for overnight guests, separate emergency entrance, chapel, C-section surgical suite and a sustainable design for good environmental stewardship.

Groundbreaking is set for Aug. 17 at 12 p.m. The public is invited to join in celebrating this event, which will take place at the building site at 1700 West Stout St.
