On Nov. 1 at 1 p.m., the St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra will be performing at the Barron Area Community Center. The time was changed because the NFL, without consulting the BACC schedule, changed the time of the Packer-Viking football game and hopefully the time change will not cause any confusion.

The St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra is from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and is composed of university students and members of the community and directed by UW-RF music professor Dr. Kristin Tjornehoj. The program consists of piano solos by recipients of the Mary Ella Jerome Family Foundation; a remarkable performance of Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 25, with orchestra by Tony Capparelli; and Handel's V'Adoro Pupille from "Julius Caesar", a vocal solo with orchestra by Brittany Kamrath. In addition to this, the orchestra will perform a Strauss waltz and other familiar and interesting pieces. While it's certainly a busy weekend, it should be noted that none of these musicians are paid to perform. They volunteer their time to share their enjoyment of music and hopefully the community will take the time to support them. Tickets are just $5 for adults and $2 for students and are available at the door. For those who may be concerned, the concert will conclude with ample time to enjoy the football game. A second opportunity for orchestral music will be during the weekend of Nov. 14 and 15 with the Red Cedar Symphony Orchestra with performances in Hayward and UW-BC. Please consider supporting these two events.
