Ten students from the instrumental music department at Chetek High School were selected to this year's annual tri-state honors band.

Students are selected for the event, which was Thursday at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, based on their musical accomplishments as well as their director's recommendations. The guest conductor for this year's groups was Timothy Smith, who is a former career U.S. Marine Corps musician, conductor and clinician. Smith shared the podium with UW-Superior symphonic band director Dr. Pamela Bowen Bustos, who is the festival coordinator. A concert was presented in Thorpe Langley Auditorium featuring the UWS symphonic band and both the gold and black honors bands. Selected to the gold band from Chetek were Rachel Sheehan, a sophomore who plays clarinet; Olivia Jensen, a freshman who plays clarinet; Cassie Hoff, a senior who plays flute; Liz Pasholk, a junior who plays flute; and Ed Martin, a junior who plays trombone. Selected to the black band were Nikki King, a junior who plays clarinet; Heather Jahn, a senior who plays trumpet; Lacey Loftus, a senior who plays flute; Kelly Damroth, a senior who plays oboe; and Derek Westholm, a junior who plays percussion. Damroth was featured as a soloist on one of the band's selections. The students spent their day rehearsing as well as working in sectionals with faculty and students from UWS. The event gave students the opportunity to rehearse with others of similar abilities. The students were accompanied by band director Bruce Kamrath.
