"The project celebrates talent through music by bringing students together to work with nationally recognized conductors and some of the best teachers our state has to offer," said Tim Wurgler, WSMA program director. "The result is truly an inspired performance that is a credit to the student's talent, school, teacher and community." More than 1,800 students in grades 9-11 auditioned for 430 positions in the WSMA High School State Honors Music Project ensembles. The auditions were held in seven sites across the state in February. Those selected to the ensembles include: Bloomer High School-Abby Bruxvoort, band; Spooner High School-Iciar Ocariz, treble choir; Cameron High School-Daniel Joosten, band; Anna Borstad, treble choir; Chelsea Morgan, mixed choir; Stephanie Smith, mixed choir; and Benjamin Harm, mixed choir; Cumberland High School-Shawn Muench, band; Hayward High School-Jenny Xu, orchestra, Erin Lillyroot, treble choir; Ladysmith High School-Brittany Thummel, treble choir; Rice Lake High School-Tess Rademaker, mixed choir; Nicholas Shay, mixed choir; Alexander Leal, mixed choir; Bryce Aul, mixed choir; and Brock Scholze, orchestra. Students selected to participate in the WSMA High School State Honors Music Project will meet for the first time at a summer camp at UW-Green Bay. Camp dates are as follows: June 19-22, jazz ensemble; June 20-23, orchestra and treble choir; June 24-27, band and mixed choir. All honors students reconvene in Madison in late October to perform at the annual Wisconsin State Music Conference. The honors concerts celebrate the achievements of Wisconsin's finest young musicians and are open to the public.
