The students were honored April 15 during a program at the WITC Conference Center in Rice Lake. Boychuk, the daughter of Vasyl and Valentina Boychuk, was born in Ukraine but immigrated to the United States when she was 9. Boychuk has participated in forensics, cross country, played clarinet in band earning solo/ensemble medals and earned a spot in the Tristate Honors band. As an upperclassmen, she became a member of the National Honor Society, was third runner-up in the Miss Chetek program and is student council president. Next fall, Boychuk plans to attend Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn., where she is considering pursuing international studies. Boychuk chose her second-grade teacher, Lisa Leach, as her most influential teacher. Buzzelli, Bruce; Heidi Joosten, Cameron; Hillary Friendshuh, Clear Lake; Hanna Bergstrom, Cumberland; Monte Stewart, Flambeau; Zach Anderson, Frederic; Tyler Myers, Grantsburg; Molly Burger, Hayward; Holly Hanson, Ladysmith; Lee Kostick, Lake Holcombe; Brennan Olson, Luck; Mike Farrell, New Auburn; Katie Rydeen, Osceola; Adam Klefstad, Prairie Farm; Alexander Stene, Rice Lake; Carissa Libbenga, St. Croix Falls; Annie Dunham, Shell Lake; Jenny Van Etten, Spooner; Reed Molls, Turtle Lake; Cailin Turner, Unity; Nicole Hecimovich, Weyerhaeuser; and Ashley Hooker, Winter. Five of the students: Haugestuen, Olson, Rydeen, Klefstad and Stene, were awarded $500 NEU scholarships.
