The scholarship is valued at $80,000. Masters, who lives in Cameron, has a 4.0 grade-point average and will major in biology.

The competition featured 28 high school students, who participated in the daylong event, which included testing, science facility tours and individual interviews. It is Viterbo's most prestigious scholarship event.

To be considered for the competition, students select a science-related major, earn a minimum score of 25 on the ACT test and were required to submit an essay and letters of recommendation.
