Spirits might rise from the grave on All Hallow's Eve, but treats greet the persistent (and tricks, the unwary) who join the masquerade. Venture out to dine with ghosts, hike corpse-strewn trails and shop for seasonal treasures.
The Chetek Alert reminds drivers and trick-or-treaters to exercise caution between 4:30-7 p.m. Oct. 31, trick-or-treating hours in the City of Chetek.

Haunted hangouts

* Betty's Café, Cameron-A deceased former employee is rumored to inhabit the back of the house and linger near the fryers.

* CTH M, Chetek-Legend has it that a phantom woman almost leans into the cars of late-night passers-by between Chetek and Lake Holcombe.

* Unexplained Conference, Eau Claire-Psychic sisters, phantom hunters and rock-n-roll ghost researchers are on the agenda at 7 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Plaza Hotel in Eau Claire. Cost is $9, $5 for children. Call 834-3181 for information.

Crypts and cadavers

Not for the faint of heart! Cost is $6. Admission to a children's haunted house is $3. Call 458-4107 for information.

Jack-o'-lantern fodder
