The Bulldogs did well in the fields event, with three of their five shot putters earning points. Caleb Novak threw 40'4", which coach Matt Buchman said is 6'8" farther than his best throw from last season. The improvement placed him in second place for six points. Vinny Brandstadter threw 39'6" for third place and four points, and Tyler Christianson made 38'3.75" for fifth place and a point. Throwing, but not scoring, were Marcus Samens with 34'0.5" and freshman Weston LeMoine with 20'10", a good starting point for the underclassman to build on.

Christianson and Novak led the group in the discus event as well. Christianson threw 113' for third place and four points, and Novak tossed 109'11" for fourth place and two points. Samens and LeMoine followed with 89'10" and 49'6", respectively.

Jon Strzelecki brought in points for Chetek in the triple jump, going 30'2" for a fifth-place finish. Alex Gilbertson (29'5") and Ruben Alvarez (25'1") also competed in the event.

Chetek had four competitors in the long jump. Buchman noted that all distances in this event have improved. Ryan Hetke placed fourth with a jump of 18'1" to put two points in the books. Brandstadter was a foot behind at 17', Josh Swangim came in at 16'1" and Quinn McFaul went 15'11".

The pole vault closed down early because of the enveloping darkness, but Kyle Hanson was able to take second place with a height of 10' before the event finished.

Buchman said, "I think that Kyle would have won. Three [athletes] were still in at 10', but Kyle took second because the Ladysmith [competitor] hadn't missed at any height yet and Kyle had missed once."

Also competing in the event was Gilbertson, who had a height of 7'.
The high jump competition allowed Patrick Mickley to bring in another point for Chetek by jumping 5'2" for fifth place. Jared Taft went 5'.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Brandstadter, Ryan Hetke, McFaul and Taft took second place with a time of 3:49.80.

Ed Martin had a personal best time of 11:51.90 in the 3200-meter (two mile) run for a second-place finish and six more Bulldog points.

Competing in the 200-meter dash, but coming in behind the competitors were: Nick de-Werd (25.4), Tylor Hernandez (25.8), Mickley (26.2), Hanson (26.7), Strzelecki (26.7), Alex Parr (27.5) and Zach Hodgson (29.2).
Kurt Candler brought more points to the board with a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run (2:17.80). Tanner Flatland followed with a 2:36.40 finish, and Gilbertson clocked in at 2:40.30.

Competing in their first 300-meter intermediate-hurdle event, Josh Amys (48.0) and Reece Flatland (48.5) took second and third place, respectively.

The 4x100-meter relay group of Kyle Hetke, deWerd, Brandstadter and Taft came in at 47.6 for a second-place spot and six more Chetek points.
Amys (56.5) took fifth in the 400-meter dash, and Ryan Hetke (57.1) took sixth.

Buchman noted, "Josh and Ryan both ran very good times, especially considering they are both only sophomores."

Parr, McFaul, Hodgson and Novak made up the 4x200-meter relay team that took third place.

The 1,600-meter Chetek competitors had good times, but weren't able to place high enough to gain points. Candler came in at 5:14.4, Martin at 5:31.9, and Alvarez at 5:59.5.

Buchman explained, "The mile (1,600 meter) times were good considering that they ran the first lap and then had to restart the race. Plus, they were not given enough time to recover before they ran again."

About the 100-meter dash, Buchman said, "Kyle [Hetke] matched his personal best in the first race of the season, so that is promising."
Hetke led the Chetek runners, finishing in second place with a time of 11.4. Following were deWerd (12.2), Mickley (12.7), Strzelecki (12.7), Hernandez (12.8), Swangim (12.9), Parr (13.1) and Nic Collier (14.20).

The 4x800-meter relay of Candler, Flatland, Alvarez and Martin came in at 9:49.00 for a third-place finish.

"With a few changes in the placing and with all athletes back, we could have won the meet. It was a good start to the outdoor season," said Buchman.
