Chetek's Canoe Bay was recognized for its book-lover's appeal in the July 31 edition of USA Today.
Along with nine other U.S. properties, the exclusive resort was identified as a "great place to see through a novelist's eyes."

Hailing Canoe Bay's 2,000-volume library and location in the Chippewa Valley, "a region made famous by Laura Ingalls Wilder," Melissa Biggs Bradley, of the travel Web site Indagare.com, says, "You can retreat to your own lakeside hideaway in the woods."

Other locations recognized were:

* The Resort at Paws up, in Greenough, Mont.;

* Blantyre, in Lenox, Mass.;

* Twin Farms, in Barnard, Vt.;

* The Algonquin Hotel, in New York;

* Kehoe House, in Savannah, Ga.;

* The Study at Yale, in New Haven, Conn.;

* L'Hotel, in Paris, France;

* The Gardens, in Key West, Fla.;

* Hotel Rex, in San Francisco, Calif.

Canoe Bay is owned by Dan and Lisa Dobrowolski. Don Solberg, formerly of Chetek (presently living in Colfax), sent in the article.

  I think it is just wonderful to have such a wonderful getaway right here in Chetek. My husband and I have had an opportunity to be at Canoe Bay many years ago and I think that make it easier for us to understand what is being said about it. Also, if you have never had a job or lived in a large city, you cannot understand the need for people in those situations and the need to be in a natural, nature setting. Thanks for sharing this with us.
