Angus M. Anderson
Angus M. Anderson, 95, formerly of Park Rapids, Minn., died Sunday, July 26, 2009, in Milwaukie, Ore.
Angus was born Oct. 10, 1913, in Chetek, and was the son of Theodore and Mary Anderson. Angus grew up in Chetek until the age of 13 when he and his family moved west to California.

Angus was an electrician by trade, but in 1946, Angus and three other partners started Arrow Development Co. in Mountain View, Calif. Arrow Development started out as a small machine shop, but went on to make a lasting impact on the amusement park industry. The team collaborated with Walt Disney to create many of the original Disney park attractions when it first opened in the summer of 1955. Arrow developed and manufactured the King Arthur's Carousel, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, the Teacup Ride, the Casey Jr. Train, Snow White Dark Cars and Mr. Toad's Hot Rod Cars. Angus and his partners spent a month in Disneyland after its opening day to check and ensure the rides they built operated properly.

Angus married Phyllis L. Newman, formerly of Chetek, on July 5, 1942. The couple lived in Mt. View, Calif., until 1959 when they moved to Santa Cruz, Calif. In 1970, they purchased a farm in Park Rapids and retired there in 1980. In 2004, Angus and Phyllis left Minnesota and moved to Prineville, Ore., to be closer to their children. After Phyllis died in November 2007, Angus moved to Milwaukie.

Angus is survived by twin daughters, Marilyn (Norman)Scott, of Milwaukie, and Carolyn (Steve) Moyer, of Bend, Ore.; a son, Eugene (Robin) Anderson, of Soquel, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Alison Niizawa, Erika Anderson, Holly Moyer, Jihan Nelson, Andrew Scott, Sean Scott and Hannah Scott; and a great-granddaughter, Emma Niizawa.

Angus was preceded in death by his wife; two sons; his parents; three sisters; and two brothers.

Angus was laid to rest at Mission City Memorial Park in Santa Clara, Calif. Autumn Funerals in Bend were in charge of arrangements.
