John A. Zufa

John A. Zufa, 89, of Chetek, formerly of Lockport, Ill., passed away Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at Luther Midelfort Northland Hospital in Barron.
John was born Nov. 6, 1919, to John and Sophia (Palko) Zuffa in Joliet, Ill. He worked as an office administrator for U.S. Steel in Joliet for 30 years. He was a member of the Musicians Union and had his own orchestra, "Dukes Of Rhythm," in the Chicago area for 40 years. He loved woodworking, golfing and watching various sports and was an active outdoorsman who also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed coming to the Chetek area for more than fifty years. He had lived in the Chetek area for two years coming from Lockport.

John is survived by his son, Dennis (Raqual) Zufa, of Pekin, Ill.; his daughter, Penny (Jimmy) Lane, of Chetek; two sisters, Sophia Zuffa, of New Lenox, Ill., and Joanne Rungatis, of Joliet; four grandchildren, Michelle, Shannon, Nayelly and Denise; four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Thomas, Alex and Alayna; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sophia Zuffa; his wife, Shirley (Phillips) Zufa (Jan. 11, 1989); and two brothers, Joe and Bobby.

Funeral services were held Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lockport with Father Tom McGiviney officiating. Burial was at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, Ill.
