Catherine "Cathy" J. Potter, 72, of Chetek, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Luther Midelfort Northland hospital in Barron.
|
She was born Dec. 31, 1936, in Barron to Nels and Annie (Williams) Matson. She married James R. Potter Oct. 8, 1954, in Chetek. They owned and operated Potter Tax & Accounting in Chetek for many years. Cathy loved to travel and anything that had to do with going to Alaska or on a cruise. She also enjoyed cooking, shopping, gardening and bird watching. When the TV was on she was usually watching her favorite soap operas or getting hints from the Food Network Channel. Cathy loved people, and visiting with Charlie and Louise Metcalf was very special to her. Cathy was very, very active in the Howard-Campbell-Ganske American Legion Post #179 Auxiliary. She held every position that became available over the years and gave 100 percent to the post. Cathy's main passion, though, was her two granddaughters. She would do anything for them and loved being with them. She is survived by her son, James "Jim," of Chetek; two granddaughters, Holli, of Chetek, and Jamie, of Coon Rapids, Minn.; three sisters, Eileen Ottoson, of Buffalo, Minn., Doris Kaskinen, of Annandale, Minn., and Linda (Don) Magadance, of Eau Claire; four brothers, Wayne (Edna), of Chetek, Glenn (Helen), of Altoona, Jack, of Naples, Fla., and Jimmy (Delores), of Columbia Falls, Mont.; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James "Jim" (1998); and a brother, Wally. A memorial service will take place Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Chetek United Methodist Church with Pastor Carrie Hamm officiating. Friends may call Friday from 4-7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service, all at the church. Interment will follow the service at Lake View Cemetery, Chetek. An American Legion Auxiliary service will take place Friday at 7 p.m. at the church. The Cremation Society of Wisconsin, Altoona/Eau Claire, is serving the family.
