Frances Lillian Berning, 84, of Red Wing, Minn., died Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park.

She was born Sept. 21, 1924, to Otto and Ethel (Bryngelson) Sirinek. She attended schools in Chetek and later attended the Minnesota School of Business. She married Gerald Berning June 25, 1941, in Chetek. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Western Fraternal Association, VFW Auxiliary and was involved in Girl Scouts. She sang in the church choir and several musical groups. She enjoyed music, flower gardening and bird watching. Frances is survived by her husband, Gerald; three daughters, Marilyn (Donald) Peterson, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Cheryl (Harold) Puppe, of Woodville, and Sandra Fischer, of Bowling Green, Ohio; two sons, Jerome (Betty) Berning, of Decorah, Iowa, and Dana (Lou) Berning, of Taylor Falls, Minn.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter; one granddaughter; two sisters; and a son-in-law, Todd Fischer. Mass of Resurrection was held Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Wing with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial was at Burnside Cemetery in Red Wing.
