Donald Rhone, 96, of Chetek (Potato Lake area), passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek.

Donald was born Sept. 4, 1912, to Edgar and Wilamina (McDonald) Rhone, in Greenwood. He married Helen Bjerke June 7, 1940, in Iowa. He owned and operated The Narrow Resort in the Potato Lake area and also did carpenter work in the Potato Lake area. He was an assessor for the Towns of Rusk, Grow, Big Bend and Winter, Village of Bruce and City of Chetek. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Conservation Congress of Wisconsin, Blue Diamond Resort Owners Association and a Loon Watchman for Northland College of Ashland for 20 years. He was a fishing guide for Ferndale Fishing Club. He enjoyed fishing, trapping, hunting and fishing trips to Canada. Donald is survived by his wife, Helen, of Chetek; three sons, Clare (Betty), of New Berlin, David (Darlene), of Markesan, and Gary (Marcia), of Weyauwega; two daughters, Linda (Michael) Sweeney, of Wisconsin Dells, and Carol (Joe) Rohrman, of Chippewa Falls; 16 grandchildren; 11great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Dorothy Ranney; two brothers; and four sisters. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Burnham-Ours Funeral Home in Chetek with Pastor Dave Willingham officiating. Burial was at Island Lake Cemetery in the Town of Big Bend, Rusk Co.
