Vera Komro
Vera Rose (Goodman) Komro, 82, of Chetek, died Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at the home of her daughter, Kathleen (Komro) Irvine, in Spooner.
She was born Aug. 11, 1926, in Loyal to Bill and Helen (Dupey) Goodman. Vera graduated from McDonald High School in Chippewa Falls in 1943. She went to business school in Eau Claire for one year. In 1944 she traveled to Washington, D.C., with employment at the Pentagon. She returned to Wisconsin to be employed at Camp McCoy in 1946. It was also the year that Fred Komro and she started their courtship. Three months later, on Aug. 12, 1946, in Jim Falls, she was announced as Mrs. Fred Komro. They built, owned and operated the Cadott Lanes in Cadott from 1949-1967. In 1970, Fred and Vera purchased the Chetek Motors-Chevrolet/Buick dealership in Chetek. Vera's experience in accounting proved to be a valuable asset. Vera was a hard worker. In addition to her other responsibilities, she served a term on the Chetek City Council and was active in the American Legion Auxiliary. She retired with her husband in 1989. Vera valued her family, the Lord, relatives and friends. She loved to travel and shared many trips with her husband, family and friends. Her interests included bridge or cards of any sorts, group games, golfing, bowling, fishing, quilting, crafts and reading. Some of her favorite family traditions were potato dumplings, poppy seed bread, fruitcake, roast beef sandwiches on Sunday nights, and cards (smear). She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Chetek. Within the church she was a member of the Women's Circle, choir and several other activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Fred Komro, who passed away in 2002.

She is survived by three sisters, Eileen (Urban) Huber, of Oxford, Leona Ramharter, of Chippewa Falls, and Dorothy (Kenneth) Krouse, of Cadott; one daughter, Kathleen (Frank) Irvine, of Spooner; three sons, Ronald (Delores) Komro, of Smyrna, Ga., Fred (Gail) Komro, of Clifton, Va., and Paul (Sharon) Komro, of Sun Prairie; 10 grandchildren, Kim Carroll, Jennifer Krantz, Jason Komro, Renee Komro, Brynn Komro, Drew Komro, Sean Komro, Sarah Komro, Frank Irvine Jr. and Tracy McNitt; 10 great-grandchildren, Jeremy Biesterveld, Margaret Tamke, Courtney Krantz, Jacob Krantz, Jenna Krantz, Leslie Krantz, Logan Irvine, Lindsey Irvine, Kasie McNitt and Janessa McNitt; extended family, Patricia Oliveira, of Brazil; along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Chetek with Father Norbert D'Mello officiating. There was a prayer service and an auxiliary service Sunday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.
The Burnham-Ours Funeral Home and Cremation Service handled the arrangements.
