Gordon L. Olson

Gordon L. Olson, 80, McPherson, Kan., died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at Harry Hynes Hospice Inpatient Care Unit at Via Christi, St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita, Kan.
He was born April 11, 1928, in Rice Lake to Morris and Mabel Thorgerson Olson. He married Esther A. Rundblad May 8, 1953, in Chetek. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of Countryside Covenant Church in McPherson. He was a retired plumbing and heating contractor, and owned and operated Gordie's Plumbing and Heating in Chetek.

He was a former resident of Newton, Kan., Clay Center, Kan., and Chetek from 1967-1991. He had been a resident of McPherson since 2002.

Survivors include his wife, Esther, McPherson; a son, Douglas (Susan) Olson, of Newton; three daughters, Shirlee (Darrell) Harper, of McPherson, Joan (Ricky) Schulz, of Middleton, and Lori (Dwight) Crown, of McPherson; a brother, Arlie (JoAnne) Olson, of Chetek; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Peter; three brothers, Raymond, Merlin and Arden; and a sister, Ruth Rozak.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Countryside Covenant Church, in McPherson, with the Rev. Jon Black officiating. Inurnment will be at the Garfield Center Cemetery, near Garfield, Kan., at a later date.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Countryside Covenant Church or Victory Village Heart Ministries in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 N. Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460 (phone 620-241-2442).
