Prescott O. Solie, 85, Barron, Wis., surrounded by his family, went peacefully to be with his Lord Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, following a battle with mesothelioma. He was born April 11, 1924, in Maple Grove Township, Barron County, the son of Harry and Esther (Matheson) Solie. He grew up in the Cumberland and Barron areas, graduating from Barron High School in 1942. Prescott served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a radar specialist in the Pacific front. He married Dorothy Ellen Johnson on June 20, 1947, at Rice Lake. Prescott was a master plumber. He worked for Solie and Son in Barron and other plumbing firms in the surrounding area, including Phalen and Popple, Chippewa Falls. His passions were family, coffee shop friends, helping others, farming and tinkering in his shop. Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters, Ingrid (Gary) Jagodzinski of Eagan, Minn., and Ellen (Daniel) Peterson of Chetek; a son, Paul (Grachia) of Grantsburg; an exchange student daughter, Marcia (Ian) Pakes of Victoria, Australia; grandchildren, Alysa (Jonathon) Bell of Botswana, Africa, Sara Peterson of Pella, Iowa, Dorothy Ann (Lorin) Divine of Rice Lake, Luke (Julie) Peterson of Lakewood, Colo., and Peter (Brook) Solie of Rice Lake; and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Burton. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, from Prairie Lake Evangelical Covenant Church, Prairie Lake Township, with Pastor Philip Rohler officiating. Burial followed at Wayside Cemetery, Barron, with military rites accorded by Barron American Legion Post #212 and VFW Post #8338. Visitation was held 4-7 p.m. Friday from Rausch and Steel Funeral Home, Barron, and an hour prior to services at the church.
