The Barron Area School District is in the process of compiling a list of all three-, four-, and five-year-old children that will be eligible for Early Childhood, Pre-Kindergarten, or Kindergarten for the 2008-09 school year.
The district is inviting all children between 3 and 4 years of age to participate in screening and registration. The purpose of this screening is to identify children who may need additional support before entering school. The screening is provided at no cost and will provide parents with important developmental information about their child.
Pre-Kindergarten is open to any child that will be four on or before Sept. 1, 2008, or five years old and not enrolling in kindergarten this fall. This program is designed to provide students with a number of educational and social experiences that are developmentally appropriate for children of that age group. The program will be available in three locations: Almena, Dallas, and Woodland Elementary School in Barron.
Children that turn three on or before March 1, 2008, will also have an opportunity to participate in developmental learning activities along with receiving hearing and vision screening. Parents will then have an opportunity to discuss the results with school personnel.
Screening will take place March 11 and 12 from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Woodland Elementary School. Parents that live in the Barron Area School District and did not receive a letter or want more information about the programs are asked to call the Woodland Elementary School Office at 537-5621.
