Call me. Drop me a note. Give me hell.
I want to hear from you because we are working every day to make The Register Citizen a better source of local news, information and advertising.
If you can't get that information in the format you want, when you want, how you want, and in a way that doesn't raise your blood pressure to dangerous levels, we've got a problem. And I want the opportunity to fix it for you.
We manufacture a product from scratch every night and put it out on the street and on the Web for thousands of families to scrutinize.
The details matter. In fact, it is ALL about the details.
And in addition to being publisher of The Register Citizen, I am a home delivery customer.
It was a minor thing, but it sure was annoying as I read the newspaper each morning. Instead of being folded in half, or in thirds, my paper was being rolled up and rubber-banded in a tube-like missile that was wound so tight that I couldn't smooth the paper out to actually read it without putting it on an ironing board. And I'm not allowed to go near ironing boards. Not since "the incident."
But I'm the publisher, so I just walked down to talk to the guy in charge of distributing our newspaper, and he took care of it. (His name's Bob Reneson, and you can call him directly if you've got a problem like this that you've called us about with no luck. He's at ext. 370 down here at The Register Citizen, which you can reach at 860-489-3121. Or send him a note at breneson@registercitizen.com.) I'm often pleased at how quickly Bob solves my problems. I know he'll treat you the same way if you reach out to him.
But you can also call me, about a specific problem we can solve for you that day, about bigger-picture concerns or complaints about the newspaper, or heck, just to chat. I'm at ext. 350.
If I'm not in the office, and I try not to be, I will call you back.
And if you want to reach me pretty much immediately, you can send me an email and it will go directly to my cell phone, which I have with me all the time.
So hit me with your best shot. If I can answer your question or solve your problem, I will. If I can't do so immediately, I will be honest about it, and will learn everything I can from your feedback about how to shape this newspaper in the longer-term.

Speaking of email going right to one's phone, did you know that I receive The Register Citizen's front page on my email every day, in addition to the version that lands on my doorstep?
It's not a publisher thing. You can get it, too. Just go to www.registercitizen.com, and click on the little "EMAIL DELIVERY" logo in the top right-hand corner. There you can register to receive an interactive front page via email each morning, and more importantly, breaking local news updates by email as we post them.
Last week, for example, you would have found out that Route 8 was shut down due to a triple-fatal accident, possibly allowing you to adjust your travel plans. You would have learned that a New Hartford sex assault suspect was arrested, nearly 24 hours before the news made the print edition of the newspaper.
Signing up is easy, and with every email, we include the opportunity to unsubscribe if you try it and then change your mind.
Matt DeRienzo is publisher of The Register Citizen. He can be reached at 860-489-3121, ext. 350, or by email at mderienzo@journalregister.com.
