FORT DODGE -- The Harlan Community girls cross country team, along with individual qualifiers Nathan Brace of HCHS and Kenzie Cast of IKM-Manning, will represent the area this Saturday (Oct. 31) at the 2009 State Cross Country Championships. The state meet is being held once again at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course, just north of Fort Dodge. The Cyclone girls will be competing in the 3-A state field for the sixth consecutive year and will start their race at 12:00 p.m. (noon). HCHS is ranked seventh by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches and has placed seventh at the last two state meets. Brace, a senior, has qualified for his second straight state meet and is scheduled to run at 12:30 p.m. in the 3-A boys race. Brace placed 36th out of 121 runners last year, but his expectations are much higher this season. He is ranked No. 5 among all Class 3-A boys runners. Cast, meanwhile, will put her undefeated individual record on the line when she starts the 2-A girls race at 1:00 p.m. The Wolves' freshman has won all 10 of her races this fall, including a seven-second win over Missouri Valley's Whitney Dooley at Monday's 2-A regional meet in Greenfield. As a team, the IKM-Manning girls finished eight points away from making the 2-A field. Cast is listed 11th in the 2-A girls' individual rankings.
