Proposed design and location of Ogden Wellness Center

A planned wellness center for Ogden cleared a significant financial hurdle with the commitment of $500,000 from the Leonard A. Good Trust. The grant, which would be paid over four years, is a major step towards meeting the project's estimated $850,000 price tag. Ogden City Administrator Donovan Olson said that applications are being prepared to secure a USDA Rural Economic Development Loan Grant for up to $300,000. The USDA loan grant, along with its required $60,000 in matching funds, could allow construction to begin as early as this Fall. Olson said that a more likely time line would be for work to begin in Spring of 2013. The 3100 square foot building is being designed to fit the needs of Boone County Hospital and will serve as a Boone County family medicine clinic. The first phase of the project would provide designated space for two doctors with additional room that can be used by visiting specialists or possibly new medical equipment such as an x-ray machine. This portion of the wellness center would be built at 324 W Walnut St (the western half of the open lot between Clark's Food Mart and the former bank building). The remainder of the lot will be beautified as part of construction, but will be kept available for the center's second phase which would house medical facilities available for lease. The Ogden wellness center is the cornerstone of a Main Street revitalization plan prepared by the city, Ogden Legacy, and the Environmental Protection Agency Office of Brownfields and Land Revitalization. |
