Funds received from Boone County Community Endowment will help in the purchase of new picnic tables for Ogden City Park and a much-needed ambulance cot for the First Responders unit. The $10,000 in grants Ogden received is part of the $84,095 awarded to various County organizations at a special celebration held at the Boone Bank and Trust Friendship Room Thursday, April 19. In their grant application, Ogden EMS technicians said they must lift heavy patients from awkward and unstable situations onto an old cot and then lift the patient and the cot into the ambulance. They explained how a new power cot will allow technicians to load the patient and the cot safely and smoothly into the ambulance so that patients can be safely transported to the hospital for medical treatment. A request for new picnic tables came from the Ogden City Parks Department. According to the parks department vandals continually write profanity with permanent markers on the current wooden table tops. The Department was wanting to replace six picnic tables with wire mesh top tables hoping to eliminate the graffiti problem. The existing tables will be moved to a grass lot downtown for use during lunch time and community celebrations. An estimated 339,264 people will benefit from the 20 grants made by the Boone County Community Endowment. These grants are anticipated to leverage another $654,644 in total project spending. "We received 48 grant applications requesting $344,321. We only wish that we had more resources at the Endowment because we know there are many needs and worthy projects throughout the county," said Mary Bilden, Chair of the Community Endowment Board. This was the seventh time that the Boone County Community Endowment has engaged in grantmaking. In 2006, 10 grants were awarded totaling $42,883. In 2007, 13 grants were awarded totaling $47,974. In 2008, $66,235 was awarded to 14 recipients and in 2009 17 grants totaling $98,269. $105,650 was distributed in April of 2010 and $84,223 was distributed in 2011. We are distributing $84,095 in 2012. To date, $529,329 has been distributed in Boone County from this fund including 2012. The Endowment has applied for and received funds from the County Endowment Fund legislation. The Boone County Community Endowment was organized by representatives from throughout Boone County. "Our mission involves helping the communities and non-profit organizations of the county," said Bilden. "We want to partner with communities and non-profit organizations to help them with programs and projects that might otherwise not be available to the individuals, families and visitors to our county." As an affiliate endowment, the Boone County Community Endowment can assist donors who wish to make outright and testamentary gifts of support to our Endowment or other charitable organizations in the county. "It's even possible for local charitable organizations to establish their own funds and benefit from special tax credits and the professional expertise and investment management we help provide," said Bilden. |
