    Ogden baseball improves to 17-9

    Dogs pick up four wins this past week

          Ogden boys finished the week with 4 wins and 3 losses. Wins came over Panorama, West Central Valley and Woodward Academy. They also picked up a tournament win over Southeast Webster-Grand. All-tournament honors went to Bulldogs Cayce Good, Treston Hagen and Josh Turner. Turner collected 6 hits in tourney action including 2 doubles.
          The Bulldogs are 17-9 overall and 11-4 in conference play. This week they travel to Earlham, Granger and Guthrie Center. Ogden hosted Van Meter Tuesday (after presstime).

    Ogden 6 - Panorama 0

          Turner held the Panthers from Panorama to one hit in a 6-0 Bulldog victory Monday, June 18. He struck out 12 Panther batters while walking only three.
          Adam Adreon led off with a single in the Bulldogs' half of the fourth inning. Turner reached first base on a dropped third strike advancing Adreon to third. Preston Church followed with a single scoring Adreon, putting the Bulldogs up 1-0.
          In the Bulldogs' half of the fifth, with two men out, Adreon and Turner singled. Church was then hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Henry Haglund singled, scoring Adreon and Turner and advancing Church to third base. Haglund advanced to second base when the centerfielder attempted a play at home plate. Wyatt Westberg singled, scoring Church and Haglund putting the Bulldogs up 5-0.
          The Bulldogs finished the scoring in their half of the seventh when Church, Gabe Summerhays and Michael Ryan were all given free passes to load the bases. Cody Good was walked, scoring Church.
          Ogden was led by Adreon's two hits and two runs scored. Haglund also added two hits including two runs batted in. Turner, pitching 6 innings of one hit ball, struck out 12 and walked three. Church pitched one inning, striking out all batters he faced.

    Ogden 3 - WC Valley 2

          Last Tuesday in Ogden, Cayce Good scored the winning run on a wild pitch for a 3-2 Bulldog win over the Wildcats from West Central Valley. Good tripled to right field with two outs in the 8th inning setting the stage for the game winner.
          The Wildcats started the scoring in their half of the third inning when they took advantage of some shaky Bulldog defense to go up 2-0. The Bulldogs committed three errors in the inning.
          Ogden responded in their half of the third when with one out, Cody Good was hit by the pitch. Colton Boggess was safe at first on a fielder's choice and Good safe at second base. Adreon singled to center, scoring Good. Turner singled to center scoring Boggess to tie the score at 2-2. When Adreon was thrown out at the plate Turner advanced to second on the throw.
          Church was then hit by the pitch causing him to leave the ball game.
          Ogden missed on an opportunity in the home half of the fourth. With one out Cory Carson tripled to right field but was left stranded there.
          In the home half of the eighth inning the first two batters were retired. Cayce Good, pinch hitting for Carson, promptly tripled to right field. Good scored the winning run on the a wild pitch.
          The Bulldogs were led by Adreon with two hits including five innings of relief, taking over for the injured Church. Adreon struck out 12 wildcat batters including the last 9 batters he faced. Cayce Good and Carson each added triples.

    Ogden 12 - Wood. Academy 2

          Ogden rolled past Woodward Academy 12-2 last Wednesday. The Bulldogs pounded out 12 hits in the win, scoring in every inning. The Bulldogs were led by Westberg with two hits including a double. Boggess and Carson each added two hits. Cody Good pitched 5 innings allowing 2 runs on just three base hits.

    Ogden 17 - SEW-Grand 7

          Ogden rolled past the Southeast Webster-Grand Eagles 17-7 in the Ogden Tournament Saturday. The Bulldogs survived a rough start to post a win in the first game of their own tourney.
          The Eagles took advantage of a shaky Bulldog defense as they tallied 2 first inning runs. SEW-Grand extended the lead to 4-0 in the second inning as the Bulldogs continued to have problems on defense.
          Ogden responded by pounding out 5 hits and sending 11 batters to the plate to tally 6 runs for a 6-4 lead. The lead was short lived as the Eagles responded in the visitors' half of the third, taking advantage of three bulldog errors to tally three runs for a 7-6 lead.
          The Bulldogs responded in the home half of the fourth as they sent 11 batters to the plate. The Dogs pounded out 6 hits scoring 7 times for a 13-7 lead. Poor Eagle defense enabled the Bulldogs to add 4 more runs in the home half of the fifth to end the scoring.

    Earlham 12 - Ogden 8

          First came the rain then the Earlam Cardinals drowned out the Bulldogs 12-8 Saturday. Ogden's defense struggled as the Cardinals scored 11 unearned runs to take the tournament championship.
          The Bulldogs struck first as Haglund led the inning off by reaching base on a fielding error. Haglund was sacrificed to second and scored on a double by Turner.
          Lightening in the second inning forced an hour delay.
          Things started to look up for the Dogs after the game resumed. Ogden sent 12 men to the plate and pounded out 7 hits scoring 7 times for an 8-0 lead.
          The Cardinals responded in their half of the third inning sending 11 men to the plate to tally 6 times. Earlham took advantage of Bulldog errors to tally 5 more runs in the seventh for the 12-8 win

    CR-Bayard 3 - Ogden 0

          The Bulldogs were held to three hits in a 3-0 loss to Coon Rapids-Bayard here Thursday night. Ogden's biggest threat came in the home half of the second. Turner led the inning off by reaching base on a fielding error. Haglund was walked. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Cayce Good. CR-Bayard's McAlister struck out Westberg then Ryan grounded out to end the inning.
          The Crusaders scored in the fourth without the aid of a hit. With two men out Schlitter walked then came around to score after consecutive wild pitches.
          The visitors added two more insurance runs in the seventh. Evans led the inning off with a walk. Casten doubled, moving runners to second and third. Both runners scored on a Bulldog fielding error.

    CR-Bayard 1 - Ogden 0

          Ogden fell to Coon Rapids-Bayard 1-0 in Friday night's makeup game. Carstens pitched a strong game for Coon Rapids striking out 8 Bulldog batters and scattering 6 hits. The Bulldogs wasted a strong combined pitching effort by Turner and Adreon in the loss. The duo held Coon Rapids to only 1 hit while striking out 10 batters and walking 4.
          The Crusaders scored the only run of the ball game in the fourth, without the aide of a hit. Evans led the inning off with a walk. Adreon then hit Carstens, placing runners on first and second. McAlister's sacrifice advanced both runners a base. Evans was able to score on a wild pitch.
